Education Process
The Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures at the Faculty of Letters, Bartın University offers a four-year undergraduate program consisting of eight semesters. Within the scope of the program, our students undergo a comprehensive academic training process by taking compulsory field courses at each class level alongside elective and professional development courses.
The compulsory courses offered throughout undergraduate education provide extensive content covering areas such as the history of the Turkish language, the grammatical features of contemporary Turkish dialects, and the literatures, culture, and history of the Turkic world. Through these courses, students are expected to comprehend the historical development of Turkish dialects, understand linguistic relations among dialects, and gain a holistic perspective on the Turkic world.
Elective courses within the program enable students to specialize according to their interests. These courses include phonetics, morphology, speaking practices, and text transcription studies related to different Turkish dialects, thereby improving both theoretical and practical language skills. Thus, students not only acquire grammatical knowledge but also develop competencies in reading, understanding, speaking, and analyzing written texts in various dialects.
Throughout the educational process conducted in our department, students have the opportunity to learn contemporary Turkish dialects belonging to the Kipchak, Oghuz, and Chagatai branches within their linguistic, literary, and cultural contexts. Supported by elective courses, students gain the ability to comparatively evaluate the literary heritage of the Turkic world and conduct academic research.
Through this holistic educational approach, our graduates complete the undergraduate program as well-equipped individuals with a strong academic background in Turkish language and dialects and with the ability to understand the Turkic world in terms of language, literature, and culture.
