Introduction

Department of Turkish Dialects and Literatures aims to educate Turcologists who love their country, value their country’s interests above anything else, unite their traditions with the modern world, can connect social science with other aspects of life. The students are also expected to question what presented to them, respect human rights and ethical values, know the latest literature and perform their profession with utmost zeal.

                During the 8 semesters, the students learn the language and literature of least two dialects among Kipchak, Oghuz, Chagatay and Siberian Turkish dialects. The students are also offered Russian classes in order to help them have a good understanding of the Turkish geography and access the relevant sources easily.

                Theoretical classes are taught in modern theatres. Besides, a new language laboratory which is currently under construction will bring new possibilities to dialect teaching in the department. The department has one professor, one associate professor, two assistant professors and two research assistants. The students can benefit from our mutual agreements with several universities for student exchange programmes. In the 2016-2017 Academic Year, our students had the chance to familiarize themselves with the Turkish World during 3rd Turkish World University Students Summer School organized by Ahmet Yesevi University in Kazakhstan.

                Job Opportunities

The students can work at Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, International Organization of Turkic Culture, Administration for Turks Living Abroad and Related Communities and Atatürk Culture, Language and History Higher Council. Students who advance their Russian can work as translators while those student who can read Ottoman Alphabet and Cyrillic Alphabet can work at archives and libraries.
